Vizio TV Setup Guide: Quick & Easy Steps for a Perfect Home Viewing Experience

No matter if you are a first-time buyer who has purchased a brand new Smart Television or if you are simply reinstalling a used TV purchased from someone else, getting your Vizio TV setup should be a breeze for you with this guide! The following steps will walk you through every step of the process, from opening the box and setting your Vizio TV on the stand to setting the preferred picture quality, sound quality, and input sources. Follow these simple instructions, and have a great time setting up your Vizio TV!

Step 1: Unbox and Find a Place to Put the TV:

As you unwrap your television, make sure you check that the box contains all of the parts and accessories included with your TV (e.g., remote control, user manual, mounting hardware). If you plan to use the TV's stand, make sure that you have properly assembled it according to the user's manual instructions. If you are going to hang your TV on a wall, verify the compatibility of your VESA wall mount to ensure that it will secure your TV properly.

The location of your TV will play a significant role in how well you enjoy watching TV. As such, establish a place for your TV that provides adequate airflow and is free from direct sunlight. Additionally, it is best to position your TV at a height that will provide you with optimal viewing comfort.

Step 2: Connect the Power Supply and Turn On the TV

After you have determined the best position for your TV, plug your power supply into either a wall (120 Volt AC) or into a wall outlet strip (240 Volt AC). Once plugged into the correct electrical outlet, you can now turn your new Vizio TV on either with your remote control or using the TV's power button. Once you turn on your Vizio TV, you will then enter the initial on-screen setup wizard, which will walk you through setting up your Vizio TV.

Select your preferred language option, and follow the prompts to personalize your television.

3. Connecting to the Internet

To take advantage of smart features, download apps, and use any streaming service, you will need to connect to the internet.

Wi-Fi Connection

  • Select your desired Wi-Fi network from the list provided.

  • Enter the password for your Wi-Fi Network.

  • Wait until the message indicates that the connection was successful.

Wired Ethernet Connection

  • Insert an Ethernet cable into the back of your television.

  • In most cases, the television will automatically recognize and establish an Ethernet connection.

  • Having a stable internet connection will provide better performance for software updates and streaming.

4. Pairing & Updating Your Remote

Some Vizio televisions come with Bluetooth capability for advanced remote features. If prompted, follow the on-screen pairing instructions by pressing the designated buttons on your remote. The television will then search for software updates and automatically install them. It is important to allow the update to finish before using the television to take advantage of all the latest features.

5. Signing In & Setting Up Applications

Vizio SmartCast provides you with all of the commonly used applications, such as Netflix, YouTube, Prime Video, and many others. Before using any of these services, make sure that you are signed into your account using the service's credentials. Some applications may require activation from either your mobile device or computer.

You can also send or display content from a mobile device using the built-in Chromecast feature for most Vizio televisions or Apple's AirPlay with supported models.

6. Modify Picture and Audio Settings

You can tailor your viewing experience by changing the picture settings to your needs. Popular picture types include:

  • Calibrated

  • Vivid

  • Movie

  • Game

Calibrated is great for a more balanced and realistic experience. Audio settings can be set according to the environment. If you own a Vizio soundbar, pairing it with your TV creates an enhanced audio experience.

7. Other Suggestions for Achieving Better Overall Experiences

  • Use Eco Mode to conserve energy.

  • Enable Game Mode for immediate feedback while playing games.

  • Utilize CEC functionality. It allows you to operate connected products with one remote.
